Greek gods
The Ancient Greeks believed in Gods that controlled the earth, and that they had to worship the gods. There are a large amount of gods that were believed to exist. And that they all had special powers. The gods influenced every day life in Greece. They represented different Facets of the earth. Some of these gods became patrons of cities. For example in myths Athena and Poseidon battled to be patron of Athens. In the end Athena won. Many temples were made to worship the gods. The gods were described as having human bodies and personalities. Twelve of these gods lived up on mount Olympus. They were the most important of all. Five of these gods are :
Zeus: Son of Cronus and Rhea. He is the God of the sky.
Poseidon: God of the sea. Believed that he is able to create earthquakes with a flick of a finger.
Hades: The god that Rules the underworld. Brother of Zeus and Poseidon.
Athena: Worshiped as the Goddess of Wisdom, The useful arts, and warfare. At birth she sprang from her father Zeus's Head.
Aphrodite: The Ancient Greek's Goddess of love and beauty.
